In the mid 1970s, surfboard shaper Renny Yater was commissioned by screenwriter John Milius to produce a handful of longboards for his upcoming film, Apocalypse Now. Some fifty-plus years later, the Yater Apocalypse fin template has become a timeless design, providing plenty of hold, pivot, and drive for a wide range of surfers. And the story of the film that it references feels more real than ever.
